David Black Award winner announced

We were delighted to attend the David Black award ceremony this morning at the House of Lords, hosted by Lord Palmer. The recipient this year was none other than our very own President, Dr. Susanna Williamson. It was apparent that Susanna had numerous nominations from all areas of the pig industry, which demonstrates the high regard in which she is held by so many dealing with pigs. Susanna’s acceptance speech started by thanking the many people with whom she has worked and been associated with in the pig field. She then went on to outline the need to strengthen collaboration between different sectors of the industry to safeguard the health, and welfare, of pigs. She emphasised the need for succession planning by ensuring high calibre stock people, managers, vets, pathologists and all those in the industry are encouraged, supported and trained.

It was a gloriously crisp and sunny morning in London, the breakfast superb, but best of all was seeing Susanna being recognised for her outstanding contribution to the pig industry and the health and welfare of pigs. Well done!
